As you are your greatest asset, to reach your true potential is the most important thing you can do for yourself and your family. To do that, managing your energy and your time is extremely important. This small article talks about a couple of techniques you can easily use to manage both of those and assist you in getting to where you want to be.

What are your goals? What do you like to do? Many people have said that in order to expand and relax your mind, read a book! Well, yes and no. Some people don’t like general reading, but they would like to read or study something of interest to them. No matter what the topic is, taking the time to read areas of interest to you are taking the step in the right direction to reach your true potential.

As small as it may seem, this little act of engaging in your interests will have a positive impact on your life and will help you to reach your true potential.

The little act of engaging in your interests is a form of rewarding yourself and creating balance in your life. I’m sure you have time where you have deprived yourself of thing you enjoy have had negative impact on your energy. It is the little things like this that will improve your mood, continue to increase your energy, and also increase your skills for handling any rough patches that come your way.

Managing your energy is as important as managing your time. I would recommend keeping track of the amount of time you are spending on day-to-day activities. It does not have to be done for weeks, as this can becoming time consuming in itself. A couple of day of doing this and you’ll begin to see where time is being wasted.

The key to this exercise is to be 100% honest in your assessment. Gaining clarity begins with being honest with yourself. If you are completely honest, you will begin to see how much time is actually wasted throughout your day.

This exercise is not meant to make you feel bad or anything negative. It is purely an assessment tool to help you find where time is being wasted. In order to reach your true potential, the time wasters should be limited or eliminated. Being the best version of yourself takes commitment and discipline. I can tell you watching ESPN, The Kardashians, or the Housewife of some city for a couple of hours will not help you create the life you desire.

Having clarity on your goals will also help you determine what time wasters need to be eliminated. Gaining that clarity can often be difficult at first. I would suggest starting with writing down what your top two or three goals are. From there, start mapping our how to achieve those goals in the next 12 months. Looking at a plan for the next 12 months is much more manageable than longer time frames.

There are definitely people working in jobs that do not like them. As our jobs are often the largest time consuming, energy draining, activity we do. Find the right environment and occupation is extremely important. Instead of working extremely hard and pushing your limits constantly, find the right spot for you. Look for something where you feel more positive energy and feel good about accomplishing things.

Use the time you freed up in the above exercise to increase your knowledge on a topic. Maybe there is a better suited position within you company you can work towards. It could be a completely different company. Once you begin to build your intellectual property, doors to reach your true potential begin to open.

In order for the process to work, you have to stop make excuses. I read a quote that said, “If it’s important to you, you’ll find a way. For everything else, you make up excuses”. Stop making excuses as to why you can or cannot do something. Instead, come up with solutions as how you can.

You are not defined by the position you hold at the job you work at. You are defined by the example you are and the actions you take. My hope is that these small tips will be a starting point for you to reach your true potential no matter what that is. Being pulled by your soul purpose is a much more powerful position to be in than pushing through day-to-day life.
